Otoplasty’s goal is to correct the ear imperfections with minimal scars. These imperfections may, in some certain cases, cause important social discomfort which explains why the French “sécurité sociale” may sometimes take care of the expenses.
Otoplasty can be part of an anti-ageing procedure. During the ageing process ears have a tendency to elongation and give a “big ear” impression. An otoplasty can then contribute to give a more youthful appearance.
The incision is made behind the ear. The surgeon works on the ear’s cartilaginous structure to diminish the “spring “ effect. The ear can then be replaced in a correct position.
A dressing is put in place at the end of the procedure.
Usually an overnight stay is sufficient and the return back home is possible the next day after the dressing is taken off.
The postoperative days are characterized by edema and ecchymosis.
Wearing a headband, specially while sleeping, is necessary for three weeks.
The sutures are resorbable and it is not necessary to take them off.
Before taking up sport again a delay of one to two month is to be considered
